“Flowers of the Wetlands”

$80.00

230 x 315

These pure white scented lilies emerge from muddy drains and shallow water courses, so perfect and clean. I have done these two paintings of them, and written a poem to celebrate their beauty.

Description

White lilies of the swamp

Their pure white petals shine above the fetid mud,

From the deep purple of their hearts, seep subtle fragrances,

Above their floating leaves there springs a tiny bud,

Promise of more flowers, despite the weather’s vagrancies.

From the deep purple of their hearts, seep subtle fragrances,

Flowers so delicate and pure withstand the wind above,

Promise of more flowers, despite the weather’s vagrancies,

Crouched in the shelter of protected streams they love.

Flowers so delicate and pure withstand the wind above,

High sedge may hide them, reeds protect their home,

Crouched in the shelter of protected streams they love,

They stay secure from treading feet that roam.

High sedge may hide them, reeds protect their home,

Above their floating leaves there springs a tiny bud,

They stay secure from treading feet that roam,

Their pure white petals shine above the fetid mud.
