My water colour version of the famous mountain seemed to capture the light better, but the oil version better expressed the power of the rock. This is where the mining tragedy of 1921 occurred, where 72 miners were killed in an explosion. Today all the houses of the old mining community have been removed. Only the old hospital is used as a station residence, and the trains run no more.
